The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID)
and ARABTERM project are getting technical terminology right
Two technical terminology volumes in Renewable Energies and Water Technologies undergo major reviews and updates: 4200 new entries of standardized terminological concepts are added. This way, a set of 15700 entries will be covered, amounting to 61 600 terms in four languages, focusing the Arabic-speaking user while contributing to one of the largest bases of up-to-date technical data, in Arabic, on www.arabterm.org.
This endeavor was realized thanks to the financial support of The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).The three stakeholders ALECSO, GIZ and OFID agreed to contribute to a better understanding, in Arabic, of scientific concepts, and that way strengthen arabization efforts. In the long run, young Arab technicians particularly in green jobs will benefit.
With the kind support of OFID, the intensive and meticulous work of 4 scientists, 9 translators-revisers, 2 text processors, and 1 communication coordinator aiming to compose a terminological data base in four languages ready for uploading, in maximum quality, was realized, in addition to the GIZ and BCA staff. The current support of OFID lasts from November 2015 to the end of 2016.
