Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

Our Organisation
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federally owned organisation. We work worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. Our mandate is to support the German Government in achieving its development objectives. We provide viable, forward-looking solutions for political, economic, ecological and social development in a globalised world. Sometimes working under difficult conditions, we promote complex reforms and change processes. Our corporate objective is to improve people’s lives on a sustainable basis.

Who We Work For
GIZ is based in Bonn and Eschborn, Germany. It was founded in 2011 as a company under private law. Most of our activities are commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). We also operate on behalf of other German ministries, the governments of other countries and international clients – such as the European Commission, the United Nations and the World Bank – as well as on behalf of private companies. We act on a public-benefit basis, channelling all surpluses back into our own international cooperation projects for sustainable development.

Worldwide Operations
GIZ operates throughout Germany and in more than 130 countries worldwide. Our registered offices are in Bonn and Eschborn. We have more than 16,000 staff across the globe, some 70 per cent of whom are employed locally as national personnel. There are also 890 development advisors working for GIZ.

Guido Zebisch
“The opportunities of ARABTERM lie in the fact that it is an interdisciplinary approach bridging technical disciplines with linguistic policies: the GIZ approach, working with the Arab League`s Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) on this dictionary project, is a promising combination.”

After a decade in cultural and educational cooperation with mainly German public sector organizations in the Middle East, project director Guido Zebisch, has been involved with ARABTERM since September 2011.
